Before Installation Day
The In-Home Consultation
Every project starts with an in-home consultation, not a phone quote. We measure rooms, check subfloor flatness, evaluate the existing flooring to be removed, walk through baseboard and transition considerations, and bring full-size LVP samples for you to view in your own light. You receive a written, itemized estimate with timeline.
Scheduling and Material Ordering
Once the proposal is signed, we order the flooring. Lead times vary by product — typically 1–3 weeks for stocked items. Material arrives at our shop, gets inspected, and is delivered to your home before the install date for acclimation.
What You Should Do
- Clear personal items off of countertops and shelves in rooms being worked on.
- Pack up breakables and valuables.
- Plan where pets will be during work hours.
- Confirm parking access for our crew and material delivery.
- Schedule any paint touch-ups for after installation.
Day of: Arrival and Setup
Our crew arrives at the scheduled time with materials, tools, and dust-containment supplies. The lead installer walks the project with you to confirm scope, layout direction, and any last questions. Floor protection goes down along the work path. Furniture moving begins, room by room.
Removal of Existing Flooring
Removal is typically the loudest and dustiest part of the project. The pace depends on what's coming up:
- Carpet and pad: a few hours. Cut, roll, haul. Tack strips pulled.
- Sheet vinyl: half a day or so, depending on adhesive condition.
- Tile: often a full day or more. Loud, dusty, and slow. We use dust containment where possible.
- Engineered wood: varies based on whether glued or nailed.
Old flooring debris is hauled to our truck and disposed of. Disposal fees are included in your estimate.
Subfloor Preparation
With the old floor up, we re-check subfloor flatness in detail. Grinding addresses high spots; self-leveling compound fills low spots; old adhesive residue is removed; cracks and divots are patched. This is the unglamorous, critical phase that determines whether your new floor is bouncy or solid in year three.
On a typical Florida slab, prep takes a few hours to a full day depending on the condition. The amount of prep should not surprise you — we identified it during the consultation and it's on your estimate.
Acclimation
New LVP needs to sit in your home for at least 48 hours before installation so it equalizes to your indoor temperature and humidity. We schedule the delivery accordingly. Skipping acclimation is one of the most common causes of gapping a year later.
The Installation Itself
With the subfloor prepped and the material acclimated, the actual planking goes quickly. The lead installer sets a starting wall, plans pattern stagger, and begins clicking planks together. Helpers cut planks to length and width at the cut station, working ahead of the install.
Expect a steady rhythm of measuring, cutting, snapping planks into place, and tapping joints tight. A skilled crew can install several hundred square feet a day at this stage.
Around doorways, vents, and any irregular shape, planks are carefully scribed and cut for a tight fit. Expansion gaps of 1/4" are maintained at every fixed object — they'll be covered by baseboards and quarter round.
Baseboards and Trim
With flooring down, baseboards are reset (or new baseboards installed if you chose the upgrade). Quarter-round shoe molding goes in at the floor line for a clean transition. Painted baseboards typically need a touch-up afterward — most homeowners handle this themselves; some hire a painter.
Transitions and Finishing
Where the new LVP meets another flooring type — tile at a bathroom doorway, carpet in a bedroom, the front door threshold — transition strips are installed. These come in matching colors and create a clean, durable boundary.
Stair nosings, if applicable, are installed with the matching plank profile for a unified look between landing and stair.
Cleanup and Final Walk-Through
Crew cleans the entire installed area: vacuum, sweep, damp wipe. Tools and debris go back to the truck. Furniture moves back into position.
The final walk-through is the single most important moment of the project. We walk every room with you, looking for any plank that doesn't sit flat, any transition that's not tight, any edge that needs cleaning. We fix anything found before leaving. You sign off when you're happy.
After Installation
- Walk the floor over the next few days; report anything that develops.
- Put felt pads under all furniture before moving things back into final position.
- Set up walk-off mats at every exterior door.
- Start your cleaning routine: sweep regularly, damp-mop with pH-neutral cleaner.
- Save the leftover planks — they're invaluable for future repairs.

How long does an LVP installation take?+

Do I need to leave my home during installation?+
No. Most homeowners stay in the home throughout the installation. We work room by room when possible so you have usable space. Pets may need to be confined to a quiet room. Air quality is excellent — there are no harsh adhesive fumes with floating LVP installation.
Do I need to move furniture before the installer arrives?+
We handle reasonable furniture moving as part of the install. Heavy items like pianos, gun safes, and antique armoires typically require a separate specialist. We discuss this during the consultation so there are no surprises.
Can I walk on the floor right after installation?+
Yes. Floating LVP is walkable immediately. There's no curing or drying time. Heavy furniture can typically be moved back the same day, though we usually leave the freshly installed floor for at least a few hours.
Will my baseboards be replaced or reused?+
We pull existing baseboards before installation and reset them afterward — this gives the cleanest look. You'll typically want a paint touch-up after handling. Some homeowners upgrade to new taller baseboard profiles during the project, which we coordinate as part of the scope.
What if the installer finds problems with the subfloor?+
We measure subfloor flatness during the in-home consultation, so any required prep is identified before work starts and itemized on the estimate. Surprises that emerge during the install (a hidden moisture issue, a structural soft spot) are rare but possible — we'd stop work, document, and discuss the path forward with you before proceeding.
How much dust and mess is involved?+
LVP installation itself is clean and quiet. The dustiest part is tile removal if applicable — we use dust-containment techniques but expect some mess in those rooms. Subfloor grinding is also moderately dusty. We clean as we go and do a final cleanup before walking the finished job with you.
Do I need to be home for installation?+
Not the whole time. You should be there for the start of the project to walk through the scope and confirm the layout direction with the lead installer, and at the end for the final walk-through. The hours in between are at your discretion.
What's the final walk-through about?+

How soon can I clean my new floor?+
You can damp-mop your new floor the day it's installed. The wear layer is fully cured at the factory. We typically recommend giving it a day or two of normal use before any heavy cleaning, just so the floor settles.
