Flooring Installation Guide Center

Everything homeowners need to know about professional flooring installation — from preparing your home and understanding timelines to caring for your new floors after installation.

An Honest Place to Start

Installation should feel calm — not chaotic.

For most homeowners, a whole-home flooring project is one of the biggest physical changes they will ever make to the inside of their home. Rooms will be emptied, furniture moved, old flooring torn out, subfloors prepared, and several days of professional work will play out room by room. It's a big deal — and a little uncertainty about how it will go is completely normal.

The Installation Guide Center exists to remove that uncertainty. Every guide here is written from the installer's perspective for the homeowner who has never replaced a whole-home floor before. We walk you through the steps in order, explain what is normal and what isn't, and tell you exactly what to do before, during, and after install day so the project feels organized rather than overwhelming.

Preparation is the single biggest predictor of how smoothly an install goes. A homeowner who has cleared dressers, packed valuables, planned for pets, identified parking, and read the prep checklist on the morning of day one is a homeowner whose project finishes on time, on budget, and with a floor that looks like the finished photos. A homeowner who hasn't is the one chasing the crew around the house at 8 a.m. trying to relocate a fish tank.

Communication is the next predictor. Good installation is not just product on a subfloor — it's a series of small decisions made together. Which direction should the planks run in the living room? Should we reset the existing baseboards or upgrade to a taller profile? How do you want the transition handled at the master bath? These are conversations, not assumptions, and the guides here will help you arrive at install day with informed opinions rather than question marks.

Homeowner concerns are almost always the same: dust, noise, smell, mess, kids, pets, schedule, surprises. Each one is addressable. Modern dust containment, room-by-room scheduling, floating LVP with no harsh fumes, written proposals that itemize subfloor prep, and a culture of cleaning as we go — together those eliminate most of what people worry about. The guides here cover each concern in detail so you know exactly how a professional crew handles it.

We also believe deeply in the value of professional installation. A waterproof LVP plank is engineered for decades of use, but only if the subfloor beneath it is flat, the plank is acclimated, the expansion gaps are correct, and the transitions are tight. Cutting corners on the install is the fastest way to end up with a "new" floor that gaps, peaks, or cups within a year. Doing it right takes longer, costs more, and is worth every additional hour and dollar.

Finally, planning. Every great install starts weeks before day one. Materials get ordered, lead times confirmed, acclimation scheduled, parking and access arranged, baseboard decisions made, prep work itemized, and a day-by-day plan written down. The guides below give you the language and structure to plan with your installer — not be surprised by them.

Read the guides that match where you are in your project. If you're three weeks out, start with the preparation checklist. If you're a day away, read the timeline and final walkthrough guide. If you're already living with new floors, jump to post-installation care. Each guide is short, scannable, and written for the real homeowner experience.

Common Homeowner Concerns

The questions every homeowner asks before day one.

Will there be dust?

Some dust is unavoidable during tear-out — especially with tile. We use dust-containment plastic, vacuum-equipped tools, and clean as we go. By the final walk-through every room is swept and damp-mopped.

Will my home be a mess?

We protect adjacent flooring, mask off door openings, stage cut stations away from clean rooms, and haul debris directly to our trucks. The home is cleaner at the end of the day than during the work.

Can I stay in my home?

Yes. Most homeowners stay throughout the install. We work room by room when possible and there are no harsh fumes with floating LVP.

Should I move my furniture?

We handle standard furniture moving as part of the install. You move small valuables, electronics, and items off surfaces. Specialty pieces — pianos, safes — are flagged during the consultation.

How long before I can walk on the floor?

Floating waterproof LVP is walkable immediately. Glue-down installs follow the adhesive's open-time guidelines, which we explain in writing.

What if the subfloor needs repair?

Required prep is identified at the consultation and itemized on the proposal — no surprise pricing. Unexpected issues during install are documented and discussed before any additional work proceeds.

How do you protect my home?

Floor runners along work paths, plastic at doorways to contain dust, padding on doorways and cabinets near cut stations, and felt pads under furniture as it goes back into place.

Installation FAQs

The questions every homeowner asks.

How long does a typical flooring installation take?+

A whole-home LVP installation in a 1,500–2,000 sq ft Central Florida home usually runs 2–4 working days, including tear-out, subfloor prep, install, baseboards, transitions, and final cleanup. Tile removal, complex layouts, or large homes can extend the timeline to a full week. We give you a specific day-by-day plan during your consultation.

Do I have to leave my home during installation?+

No. Most homeowners stay in the home throughout the project. We work room by room when possible so you always have usable space, and floating LVP produces no harsh adhesive fumes. Pets are usually confined to a quiet room, and we coordinate access for kids, work-from-home routines, and deliveries.

Will my home be dusty or messy?+

Floor removal — especially tile — is the dustiest phase. We use dust-containment techniques, vacuum-equipped tools where appropriate, and clean as we go. LVP installation itself is clean and quiet. By the final walk-through, every room is swept, damp-mopped, and ready for furniture.

Do I have to move my furniture before installation?+

We move standard furniture as part of the install. You should clear personal items off countertops, dressers, and shelves, and pack up small valuables. Heavy specialty items — pianos, gun safes, large aquariums, antique armoires — usually need a specialist; we discuss this during the consultation so there are no surprises.

When can I walk on the new floor?+

Floating waterproof LVP is walkable immediately. There is no curing or drying time, and furniture can typically be moved back the same day. For glue-down installations, we follow the adhesive's open-time and traffic guidelines, which we explain at the start of the project.

What happens if you find a problem with my subfloor?+

We measure subfloor flatness, moisture, and soundness during the in-home consultation, so most prep is identified before work starts and itemized on the proposal. If something unexpected surfaces during tear-out — a hidden moisture issue or a soft spot — we stop, document, and walk you through the options before doing additional work.

Will my baseboards be damaged?+

We pull baseboards carefully so they can be reset for the cleanest look. Painted baseboards typically need a small touch-up afterward — most homeowners handle that themselves. If your baseboards are due for an upgrade, we can install new taller profiles as part of the project.

How do you protect the rest of my home?+

We lay floor protection along work paths, mask off door openings to contain dust, protect adjacent flooring during tear-out, and pad cabinets and walls near cut stations. We haul debris straight to our trucks rather than staging it inside the house.

What is the final walk-through?+

Once the install is complete and the home is cleaned, we walk every room with you. We look for any plank that doesn't sit flat, any transition that isn't tight, any edge that needs touch-up. Anything found gets fixed before we leave. The walk-through is when you sign off — not a courtesy at the end.

How soon can I clean my new floor?+

You can damp-mop your new waterproof LVP the same day it's installed. The wear layer is fully cured at the factory. We recommend a pH-neutral floor cleaner, microfiber pads, and felt pads on furniture. Avoid steam mops, wax, and harsh chemical strippers.

Should I be home during installation?+

You should be present at the start — to walk the scope with the lead installer and confirm the plank-layout direction — and at the very end for the final walk-through. The hours in between are at your discretion.

Do I need to acclimate the flooring before installation?+

Yes. We deliver the LVP to your home and let it sit at your indoor temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours before installation. Skipping acclimation is one of the most common causes of seasonal gapping in Florida homes a year after install.
