How Each Install Works

Floating LVP installs by locking planks together at their edges using a click-lock mechanism. Both methods are extremely durable when installed correctly. The practical difference is how the floor handles temperature and humidity swings. Floating LVP moves as a single sheet — it expands and contracts slightly with conditions, which is why perimeter expansion gaps are mandatory.

For a typical 1,500–3,500 sq ft Florida home with normal door openings breaking up the floor plan, the movement of a floating install is well within the floor's design tolerance and isn't a long-term issue.

Subfloor Requirements

This is one of the most important practical differences. Florida slabs are rarely perfectly flat — minor undulation, occasional humps from finishing trowels, and subtle dips are common across homes built any decade in Central Florida.

Floating LVP bridges minor imperfections because the plank doesn't have to conform perfectly to the substrate. Glue-down telegraphs every imperfection through to the finished surface — which means a glue-down job over a typical Florida slab often requires significant skim-coat leveling to deliver a flat finished floor. Repairs & Plank Replacement

A damaged plank in a glue-down installation has to be cut out with a router or oscillating saw, the adhesive residue scraped clean, new adhesive applied to the cavity, and a replacement plank carefully fit into place.
